How do I shop for shoes?
Do my shoes fit?
Good shoes are an important way to prevent foot problems.
- Have your shoes fitted at the end of the day, when your feet are largest. Most feet will swell approximately one shoe size over the course of a day.
- Have both feet measured.
- Have shoes fitted with the socks you intend to wear or any special inserts. Also, sizing can vary from brand to brand.
- Stand up while being fitted.
- The shape of the shoe should match the shape of the foot.
- There should be at least 1/2 inch (a fingers width) between the end of the toe and the end of the shoe’s toe box. Allow one inch for athletic shoes.
- Walk around the store to make sure the shoe feels good. Do not expect them to stretch. Shoes that fit correctly don’t need to be broken in.
- Shoes with a larger number of eyelets will make it easier to adjust laces for a custom fit.
