Healthy feet are the cornerstone to a healthy and active lifestyle. There are only a few other areas of the body that take the punishment equal to our feet, which carry our entire body weight throughout our lives. How we take care of them determines how well they will work for us, as we grow older.
Most of us do not have foot problems early in life, but experience problems as we age. For some of us, this may be related to improper fitting shoes – shoes that are too tight or make our feet feel uncomfortable. For others, foot problems may be caused by ignoring small problems like blisters or slight infections and allowing them to grow into something bigger. In the same token, medical conditions such as diabetes or other health issues that affect nerves and blood flow to the legs and feet may cause harm to the feet. Those foot problems that we tend not to seek help for, such as corns, calluses, small infections, toenails, can lead to bigger or irreversible problems.
